What's a "MultiSite"?

Life Church is a multi-site or multiple location church.  That means that though we are one church body, we meet in two different locations at the same time.

In 2007 our church was growing beyond the capacity of the building on Thompson Blvd.  At the same time, we wanted to expand further north towards Ft. Drum, to better serve the military families that are stationed there.  There are many options on how to do this.  First we could have moved the entire church closer to Drum, building a larger building.  We also could have started a conventional church plant closer to Drum.  However, both of these options would have cost too much in the way of resources and personnel.  So instead we became a multi-site church.

So on Easter of 2007, we started the North site in the Indian River High School Theater.  We also began to refer to our church as Life Church, instead of Watertown First Church.  This was to indicate that even though the North site does not have a building, and the Watertown site meets in the original building, both sites are equally Life Church.  The North site currently meets in the Evans Mills Fire Hall.

How does that work?  In Watertown, we have two services, one at 9am and one at 11:15am.  In the Evans Mills Fire Hall, the North site meets at 10:30am.  For the most part, the pastor or speaker preaches live at the two Watertown services, and the North site watches the sermon on a large projection screen.  Both sites have live worship and pastors and ministers available.  Whenever possible, we have live preaching at all three services!  So even though we're separated by more than 10 miles, we hear the same message.

Our sites also share some ministries, like our youth group.  At Common Ground, teens from both sites come together to worship and fellowship.  The sites also get together for special occasions, but they also have individual events.

It hasn't always been easy, and both sites have their own identities, but through the love and grace of Christ we work together as Life Church to see His will be done in the North Country.
